It was Saturday noon and while returning from office I thought of giving my bike for maintenance …it’s been more than 5months since it was last serviced. So I called up my wife and told her “I am going to service center and will be late “
After reaching there, service personnel came and checked the bike. He took to the bike for a spin to check the drive and suggested further service requirements.
The breakup being;
Basic Service cost : Rs.399
Valve make over(tuning) : Rs. 200
So Total cost: 599.
Over and above he suggested, “Sir why don’t you go for Rust Protection Coat”.
I asked him “Why it is required? How much will it cost?”
He said “Sir, It will cost you Rs.699. As you know, Monsoon is approaching and this Notorious Mumbai rains tends to rust the bike”.
Cool, I ordered him to go ahead and do whatever he feels like for my bike to remain in shape.
He told me that bike will be ready in 6Hrs, I can collect it in evening.
I came out of service center paying Rs.1298.
I came out and started searching for auto ,nearby there was one auto I asked the Auto driver for ride. He said “Sir, Give me 2 mins. I am having Tea… We will start the ride in 2 mins.. I Said OK and got busy with my phone.
Suddenly A poor looking guy with Torn shirt walked up to me… Looking straight into my eyes he said “Sahab 5Rs. ki chai pila do.. ”
Since I was doing something important on my phone I told him to move away and beg somewhere else .The poor guy kept looking at me with a blank stare.
The auto rickshaw driver then came and started the auto. The poor guy asked money from him .The driver after fiddling in his shirt pocket took out Rs.5 and gave it to him.
I don’t know what happened to me, inadvertently I asked him “Why did you give him money”?
He replied “Sir, Bechara subah se bhooka hoga.. 5Rs. toh uparwala mujhe kahi se bhi de dega”.
That moment made me feel poorer at heart. Here I am ready to spend 699 bucks just to add extra protection for a Non Living being and here a poor human being asked me 5 bucks and I couldn’t see thru the poor man’s heart.
That 5Rs. ki cutting chai made me realize.. Value of human life.Richness should never be measured by the amount of Money one has. But the ability to share and care for our fellow human life.
“TO BE RICH,
IS NOT WHAT YOU HAVE IN YOUR BANK ACCOUNT,
BUT WHAT YOU HAVE IN YOUR HEART “
